Linda De Sousa Abreu: Prison officer jailed for sex with inmate released early

A former prison officer who was filmed having sex with an inmate has been released from custody early.
Linda De Sousa Abreu, 31, was jailed for 15 months after admitting misconduct and abusing the public’s trust over the shock act with serial burglar Linton Weirich, 36 — but has walked free after just five months.
An X-rated clip of the tryst in a cell at Wandsworth Prison was filmed by another inmate and went viral on social media.

De Sousa Abreu has been released as part of new rules designed to reduce overcrowding, which allow prisoners to be released after serving one-third of their sentences if they behave, The Sun reports.
In court for sentencing, Judge Martin Edmunds KC told De Sousa Abreu she had compromised her role as a prison officer, undermined discipline and put officers at increased risk.
In a statement written after her arrest, De Sousa Abreu claimed to have been “terrified for her safety” prior to the offences. But the prosecutor said this was false and she had never made any complaints to authorities.
Wandsworth governor Andrew Davy said in a statement read in court: “It has taken many years for female staff to be respected and treated professionally in a male-dominated environment.
“The action of this defendant has undone years of positive and rewarding prisoner interactions in less than a day.”
Ex-Met Police detective Peter Bleksley was outraged about De Sousa Abreu’s early release, telling The Sun: “This is a shocking example of soft justice.
“Where’s the deterrent when sentences and time served are as short as this?”
A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “Offenders released on licence are subject to strict conditions and can be recalled to prison immediately if they break the rules.”
De Sousa Abreu, born in Venezuela, has a daughter with her husband.
