Local police are hunting a viral vigilante that has been dubbed ‘Mexican Batman’ after they chased alleged motorcycle thieves and taped them to poles.

A mysterious local of Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco in Mexico has decided to take justice into their own hands following reports of motorbike thefts skyrocketing in the city.

Fed-up with response from local authorities, the unknown assailant has targeted at least five alleged motorcycle thieves since the first reported attack on June 13, The Sun reported.

The suspected thieves were all found in humiliating states, left beaten and bruised while duct-taped to lamp posts and covered in drawn markings.

Many had “ratero” scribbled on their face, which means thief in Spanish, along with moustaches and cat whiskers.

The vigilante will often leave the motorcycles nearby with a pink sign above the alleged thieves’ head, detailing the allegations against them.

The radical response has blown up online, with locals dubbing the vigilante as ‘Mexican Batman’ or the ‘Batman of Lagos de Moreno’.

Despite the internet’s admiration for the self-made justice, police have launched an investigation to find the mystery suspect and the five men are being treated as victims, according to State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández.

Local police have identified two vehicles that they believe are connected to the attacks, but no suspects have been named yet, local media reports.

All the men were cut down from the poles and treated for their injuries, and one was left bloodied and bruised from the vigilante’s escapade.

It is unclear if any of the five men have been investigated over the alleged thefts.
