Nashville child critically injured after tree falls during hike at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan
A child has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after a tree fell during a group hike, with authorities investigating the incident.
A child is fighting for life after being struck by a falling tree during a group hike at a summer camp.
Emergency services were called to YMCA Camp Widjiwagan in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday morning after a falling tree fell and hit a camper participating in the camp’s Teen Extreme program.
The child suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the local children’s hospital, where they remain in a critical condition, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

In a statement, YMCA Camp Widjiwagan said the organisation’s immediate priority was supporting those affected and communicating with families.
“Earlier today an injury occurred during Teen Extreme Camp at Camp Widjiwagan when a tree hit a camper during a group hike in the woods. Emergency protocols were activated.
“A team is on site at Camp Widjiwagan to support campers and staff who were involved in the incident and emergency response efforts. Our focus at this time is on communicating with affected camper families and caring for those impacted by the incident.
“We ask for your patience and prayers for all involved as we cooperate with authorities during their review of the incident.”
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. No further details about the child’s age or what caused the tree to fall have been released.
