A teenage girl has been arrested after allegedly stabbing horses belonging to her fellow barrel racers multiple times, leaving them unable to compete.

Police were called to the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas just after 2am local time where they found three horses “intentionally injured with a sharp object”.

“Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified a teenage girl as a possible suspect,” police wrote in a statement posted to X.

“The teen had access to the barn, and investigators believe she may have used a knife to inflict multiple injuries to the horses.

“While the injuries are not considered life-threatening, they are expected to prevent the horses from competing.”

Investigators arrested the teen at a nearby hotel.

Professional barrel racer Hailey Krahenbuhl confirmed her horse, Sully, was one of those stabbed.

“Sully was stabbed multiple times last night,” she wrote on Facebook.

“I have no words, he is stitched up and in recovery. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, prayers are appreciated.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help fund the recovery of the other horses involved, Rocket, owned by Arielle Phillips, and Detail owned by Keira Weisbart.

Ms Phillips described her horror over the attack in which her prized horse was stabbed six times by someone she described as “obsessed” with her and Detail.

“Now that Detail and I are home and the shock is wearing off, I can’t stop envisioning the attack in my head as if it was me who personally lived it,” she wrote in a long sand emotional post on Facebook.

“Imagining my sweet Detail seeing this monster walk in her stall, when Detail is so trusting, and probably thought it was an innocent person coming in to handle her, and then being brutally attacked, the pain and fear Detail probably felt and I wasn’t there by her side makes me want to literally throw up.

“Envisioning her bolting out of the stall and running around the barn gushing blood, scared for her life is one of the most painful torturous thoughts that will haunt me for a very long time.”
