Piers Morgan’s move to sue Earl Spencer over ‘bulls..t’ claims in memoir ramps up, says Di would hate book

Piers Morgan has taken a fresh swipe at Earl Spencer’s new memoir after he vowed to sue the brother of Princess Diana over published passages containing false information.

The British broadcaster is taking legal action against Spencer and his publisher Penguin over “demonstrable lies” written about Morgan in the 384-page memoir, Swan Song: Diana, which was released on Tuesday.

Morgan doubled down on his decision to sue despite Spencer issuing a formal apology after he incorrectly linked the commentator to the publication of controversial photographs of the princess exercising in a gym in 1993.

In the book, Spencer wrote that Morgan and his Sunday Mirror counterpart published the images on 7 November, 1993, which had been taken using hidden cameras by the gym’s owners.

But Morgan did not join the Daily Mirror until almost two years later in October of 1995.

Morgan has thrown more fuel on the fiery fallout, saying late Diana would not be happy about the contents of her brother’s new book.

“I think it’s completely discredited. He keeps telling everybody ‘I’m doing this for Diana’,” Piers told The Sun.

“She wouldn’t want a savage attack on King Charles, with her boys at the state they are in their lives.

“I would love to know what William thinks of all this, because I suspect he’s deeply, deeply unhappy about all this stuff being regurgitated and a fresh attack on his dad, who’s got cancer, is 77, is the King, and is doing a really good job as our Monarch.

“Meanwhile he’s got this half-wit popping up after 30 years trashing him with unsubstantiated slurs.

“They should pulp the book and put everyone out of their misery.”

Morgan’s dig comes hot on the heels of Spencer’s apology where he acknowledged the errors.

“As an historian, accuracy is important to Earl Spencer,” his spokesperson said.

“He therefore wishes to clarify that his assumption was incorrect. Earl Spencer apologises to Mr Morgan for this error.”

But the apology stopped short of correcting Spencer’s description of Morgan’s reaction to being excluded from Diana’s funeral.

“Earl Spencer’s account of his conversation with Piers Morgan is accurate,” his spokesperson said.

Morgan first announced his intention to engage lawyers in an X post that was later elaborated on during Monday’s episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“Earl Spencer’s book contains fabricated inaccuracies which will strike to the heart of his credibility,” Morgan told his viewers.

“His book is out tomorrow, I’ll expect maybe many more examples of brazen falsity after what I’ve uncovered about purely an entry about myself.

“Pretty extraordinary stuff, isn’t it? And very damning, particularly about me.

“I come across in the most despicable manner imaginable. There’s just one problem. It’s all bulls..t, and very, very easy bulls..t for me to prove it.”

Morgan has continued to maintain he will only drop legal action if Spencer pulls the book and donates all profit to The King’s Trust.

“That would have two impacts. One, it would go some way to assuaging my fury over the defamation, but secondly, it would really please His Majesty and I might end up with a knighthood,” Morgan said.

“To be clear, I don’t want any money from this.”
