A man has been caught on camera in a wild shootout with a police robot that ends with him being outsmarted and run over.

The odd affair occurred in Lubbock, Texas where Felix Delarosa opened fire on the County’s SWAT team, according to KCBD News Channel.

Police say the 39-year-old allegedly fired a shot inside his hotel room after locking himself in, causing local officers to ask the SWAT team for assistance.

After unsuccessfully attempting to negotiate with the man, authorities said an officer shot Delarosa.

Authorities called in the Lubbock Regional Bomb Squad Robot to assist them with his arrest, and the situation took an almost comical turn.

Delarosa attempted to outsmart the robot as it reached for him through the hotel window, covering it with a white sheet. However, his desperate trick was short-lived as the robot managed to shake the sheet free and continued to take Delarosa into custody.

The officer controlling the robot deployed tear gas into the room and Delarosa tried to escape through the window, dropping to the floor.

The operator then had the robot drive over the top of the suspect before the SWAT team moved in and brought him to a waiting ambulance in the carpark.

Delarosa is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant after the almost two-hour standoff.
