Princess Cruises: Tragedy as crew member falls from Regal Princess, found dead in waters off Cancun coast

A crew member aboard the Regal Princess has died after going overboard during a Caribbean cruise off the coast of Mexico.
The 19-deck Princess Cruises ship, which departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was sailing in waters off Cancun when the worker fell, triggering an urgent emergency search.
Search and rescue efforts came to a tragic end when the crew member was found dead in the water.

“Princess Cruises is deeply saddened to confirm the passing of a Princess crew member who has gone overboard today from Regal Princess.
“Princess Cruises thanks the local maritime authorities and our colleagues from Carnival Jubilee who assisted in search and rescue efforts,” the cruise liner said, according to New York Post.

The identity of the person has not been released.
The Regal Princess continued its planned journey to its next stop of Belize after the incident.
After its stop in Belize on Tuesday, the vessel is expected to conclude its seven-day journey in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
The Nightly has contacted Princess Cruises for comment.
The cruise tragedy comes after a a dozen passengers were banned from Carnival Cruise Line after an unruly brawl erupted at a ship port in Florida.
The chaotic fight broke out shortly after passengers disembarked the vessel at Port Miami on Monday following a cruise to the Bahamas.
Dramatic footage of the rowdy brawl, which has made the rounds on social media, shows a group of travellers waiting in a customs line before the intense brawl breaks out.
Carnival Cruise Liner confirmed 16 passengers had been banned from its ships.
“The incident occurred in the debarkation area under the authority of US Customs and Border Patrol [sic],” the company said in a statement.
“We are appreciative of law enforcement’s swift response and handling of the matter. We do not tolerate such behaviour.
“We do not tolerate such behaviour, and 16 people have been placed on our Do Not Sail List.”
