The director of Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series has spoken out about working with the Duchess of Sussex, saying the royal is “not a chef” but is “someone who’s constantly hustling”.

Michael Steed, director of With Love, Meghan, said: “Meghan as a person is totally LA, California, through and through.”

“Everyone has their own version of her, but she’s just someone who’s constantly hustling and working,” Steed told People.

Steed described his time with the royal as “chill” and “fun”, saying everyone on the production from Meghan to the crew was “pro all the way through”.

“Her relationship with the crew became really tight fairly quickly. She has an understanding of what it means to be on set and she connected with the crew more than anyone,” he said.

“Her cooking is pretty spot-on. She’s not a chef, and it’s definitely not meant to make it seem like she is, but there’s just a love of cooking that is palpable.

“I know it sounds corny, but I really think the core of Meghan’s being is her generosity.

“She wants to do the extra thing, and I think that’s something everyone should take to heart.”

The comments come after multiple claims over recent years accusing the royal of being difficult to work with.

Former staff, many speaking anonymously, have detailed the challenges of keeping the royal a happy boss, something current staff have disputed.

A week before With Love, Meghan was released, the duchess released a behind-the-scenes video of the production, thanking everyone who “helped make this happen”.

On Friday, Netflix announced that a second season of the show has already been shot.

Meghan has said the show, which includes her chatting with celebrity pals, is not about a quest for perfection but more about finding joy in the little things.

Netflix said the second season would air this fall.

“With Love, Meghan” was supposed to premiere in January, but the duchess delayed the release due to the devastating wildfires in and around Los Angeles.

Meghan announced last month that she was rebranding her fledgling lifestyles company to As Ever, after initially calling it American Riviera.

She was born and raised in Los Angeles and now lives in Montecito, California, with Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and their two children.
