New reports from The Times of London reveal that a Royal Protection Officer allegedly briefed Meghan Markle in 2019 about allegations concerning her estranged father, after her marriage to Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle’s estranged father has reportedly been moved into a specialist dementia care facility, raising concerns that investigators may be unable to question him over allegations involving child sexual abuse material.

Thomas Markle Snr, 82, was transferred to a memory care facility in Florida on Friday, as authorities investigate two separate discoveries of alleged child abuse material linked to his belongings in the Philippines and Mexico.

The move could complicate an FBI investigation, with legal experts warning his reported dementia diagnosis may prevent him from being formally interviewed.

Florida lawyer Spencer Kuvin, who has represented victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, said investigators could face significant legal obstacles.

“You can’t just barge into a memory care facility and conduct an interview,” he told The Sun.

“Any decent lawyer would be able to get that interview struck and the FBI know that.”

The development comes after Mr Markle’s son, Thomas Markle Jnr, reportedly handed over electronic devices and other belongings to police in the Philippines after allegedly discovering disturbing material.

The items, which included computers, phones, memory cards and DVDs, are now being examined by authorities.

A second collection of alleged child abuse material was subsequently discovered in a storage unit near Mr Markle’s former home in Rosarito, Mexico, according to the Daily Mail.

Police reportedly seized computers, videotapes, photographs and other items during a search of the property.

Mr Markle has strongly denied any wrongdoing.

“I’m not a paedophile. I’ve never done anything bad to a child. Never,” he previously told The Sun.

He also dismissed the allegations as a “bunch of lies” in comments to the Daily Mail, claiming he was being framed.

Mr Kuvin warned that Mr Markle’s reported cognitive decline could make it difficult for investigators to obtain statements admissible in court.

“If someone has been diagnosed with dementia or a memory deficit then that prevents them from knowingly waiving their rights,” he said.

“There would need to be an independent medical opinion that he is able to be interviewed and there has to be a judge who signs off on the ability for him to speak.”

Mr Markle has experienced significant health problems in recent years, including a stroke in 2022 and the amputation of his left leg following a blood clot in late 2025.

Mr Markle has been estranged from his daughter Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, for several years.

No charges against Mr Markle have been reported in connection with the alleged material.
