A mother has been arrested after her two young sons drowned in a swimming pool.

Amber Goldman, 36, was taken into custody on October 20 after emergency services found her two-year-old and five-year-old unresponsive at a home in Gautier, Mississippi.

First responders arrived at the Three Oaks Drive home after a distress call was made at around 5.30pm.

Both boys were rushed to Ocean Springs Hospital, and despite life-saving efforts, they tragically died.

Ms Goldman was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia by Gautier police.

In a statement posted to Facebook on October 21, police said the investigation remains ongoing and that further charges against Ms Goldman are still pending.

David Bever, the local chief of police, said the situation was an “unimaginable tragedy” that has “deeply affected” the community.

“Our hearts are with the family, friends, and first responders impacted by this heart-breaking loss,” he said.

“We ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as investigators continue to seek answers.”

Police have not revealed what substance they allege Ms Goldman was in possession of, but the list of controlled substances in the Mississippi Code covers different classes of drugs.

If found guilty, Ms Goldman will face a maximum penalty of three years of imprisonment in addition to a $US1 million fine.

This comes after a young girl died during a scuba diving training course.

Dylan Harrison, 12, had been taking part in a diving lesson at a lake known as The Scuba Ranch in Terrel, Texas on August 16 when the tragedy unfolded.

The class was run by Scuba Toys, a separate diving company that rents a section of the quarry and offers group lessons to people who want to complete their certification.

The 12-year-old had descended to a training platform about five metres below the lake’s surface.

There was reportedly a miscommunication and the instructor brought the group all the way back up before taking them down to the underwater platform again.

When the group arrived at the platform, Dylan was missing.

Her body was found by a separate diving group who were doing a training session nearby. She was 12 metres below the surface, 7 metres deeper than the platform her group went to.

Local police are investigating the incident, and Dylan’s family are seeking a full review of the situation.
