A female passenger has been charged with felony child abuse after allegedly attacking a boy who called her “Miss Piggy” during a flight home from Disney World.

Kristy Crampton was arrested at Sanford-Orlando International Airport on Monday as she returned to Maryland with a group after visiting the Florida resort.

The police report stated the incident took place aboard an Allegiant Air flight before takeoff, the Daily Mail reported.

Witnesses told police that Ms Crampton became physically aggressive toward a boy who had reportedly called her “fat” and “Miss Piggy”, comparing her to the iconic Muppets character.

The child allegedly told Ms Crampton she was “too fat to sit in a seat,” prompting her to throw punches, strike him with a water bottle, and slam his head against the plane window.

Police have not released the child’s age, and the nature of their relationship remains unclear. The family declined to provide statements to police.

One witness claimed the boy “did nothing wrong,” describing the incident as abuse.

“The woman was not correcting, she was abusing (redacted), whipping the s...t out of the kid,” the witness said.

Ms Crampton told officers the child had been “very rude” and “disrespectful” throughout their Disney trip.

She said the situation escalated after the boy refused to download Uber on his phone. When he questioned why it was needed mid-flight, Ms Crampton said he pushed her arm off the armrest, leading her to take his phone and begin “smacking” him.

Police concluded that her actions went “beyond typical disciplinary actions,” noting “multiple strikes to the head” and the child’s head being pushed into the window.

Ms Crampton was arrested at the gate and transported to Seminole County Jail.

She appeared in Seminole County court on Tuesday, where she was released on a $US10,000 ($A15,520) bond and ordered not to have any contact with the child.

Due to the incident occurring on a commercial aircraft, the FBI has also been notified and is expected to file its own report.
