A huge blast rung out after a fire erupted at a shipyard in New York City.

An explosion at a shipyard in New York City has left one person dead and more than 30 injured.
A fire broke out at a dry dock in Mariners Harbor on Staten Island about 3.30pm local time on Friday when a metal structure went up in flames.
About 50 minutes later, an explosion rung out as emergency personnel worked to battle the blaze.

Thirty-seven people, including a dozen fire fighters, were reported injured, some seriously, DNY spokesperson Joanna Mariano told the DailyMail.
“This was a complex, fast-developing emergency situation,” New York mayor Zohran Mamdani said during a news conference.
“One fire marshal is in critical condition and one firefighter is in serious condition.
Mr Zohran offered his condolences to the family of the deceased.
“A few minutes ago I met with the firefighter and his family, as well as the fire marshal’s family. I am deeply moved by their courage as well as by their service to this city,” he said.
“I am heartbroken to report that one civilian has passed away. I send my deepest condolences to their loved ones.”
The blast sparked a major emergency response, with more than 200 firefighters and medical personnel sent to the scene.
Joanne Mariano with the fire department’s press office told AP two workers were trapped in a confined space in the metal structure as the inferno spread.
It is not yet known what caused the fire and explosion, but an investigation is underway.
