One of the largest ever Powerball jackpots has been awarded to a syndicate that picked the wrong number and landed the prize.

The massive jackpot amount that has been building since a new prize pool was generated in June has been split by two winning tickets, but the lucky punters aren’t complaining about going halves.

On Monday, October 13, Texas Lottery announced the Seven Bridges Revocable Trust of Fredericksburg, Texas, claimed the second half of September’s estimated annuitized $US1.8 billion Powerball jackpot prize — the second-largest US lottery jackpot ever won.

The latest Texas Lottery winner selected the cash value option at the time of purchase, receiving $US410,324,470.28 before tax — the largest prize ever paid out to a single Texas Lottery player and the Texas Lottery’s third Powerball jackpot winner since joining the multijurisdictional game in 2010.

The winning jackpot commenced as a $US20 million prize on June 2 and was in play for 42 draws, setting a record for the game’s longest jackpot run before being won, the Texas Lottery told People.

Texas’ winning ticket, in which the player matched all six numbers drawn (11-23-44-61-62, Powerball 17), was sold at Big’s 103, located at 11905 E. US Highway 290. The convenience store received a $US250,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The first jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Missouri, and the winner has already come forward to claim their share.

Texas Lottery representatives confirmed that the winner usually selects random numbers, but on this occasion, “decided to choose numbers that were meaningful to them.”

However, after purchasing the ticket, they realised that one of the numbers they had selected was different from the one they intended to pick.

Then, during a drive to church on the morning of the draw, they checked the ticket and thought they had won, before pulling over to check their numbers a few more times.

They then placed the ticket inside their glovebox and headed inside for a church service.

“We are Texas true to the state and its values. We believe in family, in faith, and in the blessings that come through both,” a representative of the trust told Texas Lottery, through a statement provided by their legal representation.

“This is a moment of gratitude for us, a blessing we plan to enjoy and share with those who are special to us and who serve our community.

“We ask for privacy as we look forward to enjoying our lives together as a family. God bless Texas.”
