Waymo: Safety concerns raised after woman finds man hiding in boot of self-driving car ordered for teen
A woman is raising the alarm after she found a man hiding in the boot of a self-driving car she ordered.
A user identified on TikTok as Lucky Thurman posted a video of the shocking moment which has since gone viral.
She had ordered a Waymo, a driverless taxi, to take her daughter to a location in East Los Angeles, thinking this was a safe option.

He responds by telling her someone put him in the boot and he was unable to get out.
When asked who put him there, he said “the people”.
The clip captioned “I ordered a Waymo for my daughter and a random was in the trunk” has gathered more than 2.4 million views.
The woman posted a follow up video captioned “You wanted more video. This was real life and not a skit.”
The footage appears to show the boot open, and the unidentified man being detained by police.
A young girl wearing a backpack is also seen filming the the inside of the Waymo.
The incident was confirmed by KRON4.com with Waymo, who said the company’s ride support team had helped the rider. They said the rider was okay, and confirmed they had followed up with them after the incident.
A Waymo spokesperson said the company had procedures in place for handling incidents like this one and is working to improve them.
Los Angeles police are yet to confirm if any action is being taken against the unidentified man.
Waymo is owned by Alphabet.
