Police have launched a raid to apprehend a high risk offender after alleged attacks on his former partner and a five-year-old child in the ACT.

A 49-year-old Casey man has been charged by ACT policing’s domestic and family violence investigation unit after he was arrested at a business in Belconnen yesterday.

Police will allege that between 2022 and 2024, the man repeatedly attacked his then-partner and their five-year-old child during nine separate incidents.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday charged with property damage, multiple counts of common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and choking, suffocating or strangling another person, including the child.

ACT Policing’s Officer in charge of family violence and Victims of Crime, Detective Inspector Kylie Lawson, said that ACT Policing has been working hard to establish the new unit since it was announced in July.

“We have undertaken extensive consultation with academics and sector partners to ensure the new unit meets the needs of DFV victim-survivors. This will be one of many arrests, as the DFVIU works to hold high-risk perpetrators of domestic and family violence to account,” said Detective Inspector Lawson.

ACT Policing stands ready to assist victims experiencing family violence.
