An argument had erupted between the man and woman in their ACT residence, after the 61-year-old had “consumed several drinks”.

“He demanded she leave the residence, but after she agreed he barricaded the door and allegedly refused to let her leave,” police said.

He then allegedly began “shoving and choking her repeatedly,” ACT Police said.

She was able to call emergency services using her smartwatch, and police arrived a short time later.

The 61-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated common assault, forcible confinement, and choking, suffocating or strangling another person.
