It took place in Canberra Centre where a woman threatened to stab employees.

A brazen thief has been caught threatening to stab a shop staff member after being caught shoplifting in Canberra.

Police were called to a shoe store in the Canberra Centre about 5pm on Wednesday after a woman allegedly attempted to leave without paying for items.

When confronted by staff, she allegedly claimed to have weapons in her bag and threatened to stab them.

Police have since released CCTV footage of the woman, who is seen attempting to leave the shop with a bicycle.

Anyone with any information has been urged to come forward.
