A four-year-old boy has died after a vehicle crashed into a shopfront at a busy shopping centre in Canberra’s south.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 10.20am on Sunday following reports that a car had ploughed into a store at Southlands Shopping Centre in Mawson.

Police confirmed that a four-year-old pedestrian was struck by the car and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, he was declared deceased a short time later.

The driver of the car was transported to hospital for observations.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the collision and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
