Austral: Man on the run, another arrested after shooting in Sydney’s southwest

One man is on the run while another is in police custody after a shooting in Sydney’s southwest overnight.

Gunshots were reported near Sixteenth Ave, Austral about 11.05pm on Thursday.

Soon after, a car crashed on nearby Craik Ave and two men ran away.

Police found “bullet casings and a fuel canister inside the abandoned vehicle,” a spokesperson said.

Dog squad police then found an empty pistol magazine on Sixteenth Ave.

The vehicle had been reported stolen, police said.

A 30-year-old man was located on Fourth Ave and arrested.

He is assisting police with inquiries.

At this time, there are no reports of injuries and no damage to property has been found, police said.

Inquiries are ongoing.
