The Australian Federal Police have confirmed that 13 people have been charged in connection with the nation’s biggest cocaine seizure in history.

It is alleged that a transnational organised crime syndicate were attempting to import 2.34 tonnes of cocaine on Saturday night in Queensland.

After a joint operation by the AFP and Queensland police, 11 men and two juveniles were arrested, some on land and others at sea.

The accused include the crew of a vessel intercepted while allegedly transporting the illicit cargo and several groups reportedly involved in plans to retrieve the drugs onshore.

Investigators are expected to provide further details on Australia’s largest cocaine seizure in history on Monday.
