A man in his 40s has been shot multiple times during an early morning home invasion north of Brisbane.

Shortly after 1am on Thursday, three men allegedly arrived at a house on Peggy Road in Bellmere and opened fire on a male occupant.

Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in a small, black vehicle.

The injured man was taken to Caboolture Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

It is understood children were in the home at the time of the attack.

Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 as investigations continue.
