Body found after fire extinguished at Honey Hush Caravan Park in Melbourne

Brave neighbours have put their lives on the line in a frantic attempt to rescue an elderly man trapped in his burning caravan at Laverton North.

Footage has captured the moment a huge fire engulfed a caravan in Melbourne’s west while a person was inside.

The caravan went up in flames at the Honey Hush Caravan Park on Leakes Rd in Laverton North at about 6.30pm on Sunday and was fully ablaze when firefighters arrived.

Video taken by a bystander shows the flames exploding from the caravan as people try desperately to extinguish it with hoses.

“That’s going to blow up,” a man can be heard yelling in the video as a nearby car is almost set alight.

A woman then starts asking if anyone is inside the caravan.

Firefighters arrived seconds later and extinguished the blaze.

When they searched the burnt out remains, they found a body and that person is yet to be formally identified.

Police are now trying to determine how the fire started and anyone with information is urged to contact them.
