An Australian business owner has been found dead on the steps of a convenience store in Thailand following a full moon party.

Christopher Stephen Boucher, a British ex-pat who lived in Sydney’s northern beaches, was found dead on the steps of a 7-Eleven at around 6.30am on Monday.

The full moon party was held on Koh Phangan, an island in the Gulf of Thailand, renowned for its monthly celebrations linked to the lunar calendar where revellers drink alcohol out of buckets and celebrate with little supervision.

It is understood that Mr Boucher had hired a local to drive him from the party back to his hotel at around 6.30am on Monday.

However, he was found unresponsive near an ATM, with authorities believing he had been trying to get cash out in the moments before his death to pay the local driver.

He was discovered around 7.20am local time, with emergency services unable to revive the man.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and are hoping to discover who drove Mr Boucher from the party to the ATM, and why they left him.

“Officers are checking CCTV to find out who took the tourist back and why they left,” Police Lieutenant Colonel Arun told local media.

Mr Boucher, originally from Kent, was discovered with a plastic drinking bottle and his NSW drivers licence.

“We found the body lying face up. It was sent to the Koh Phangan Hospital for further examination,” Lieutenant Colonel Arun said.

“The deceased had returned from the full moon party. Officers are currently questioning witnesses who claimed to have seen him drunk at Hat Rin Beach where the party was held.

“He was said to have been visibly exhausted before he died.

“There were no signs of assault, so we believe he might have been drunk or overdosed. His blood test results are still pending.”

Mr Boucher was the owner of Northern Beaches Cleaning Service, which was ran out of his home in Manly.

A housemate of Mr Boucher told News Corp he was a “beautiful man”.

Online reviews for Mr Boucher’s website said Chris “worked his socks off” for clients.
