Coffs Harbour fatalities: Two dead and one fighting for life after horror crash

A car left the road, hit a tree and burst into flames leaving two people dead and a third fighting for life following a single-vehicle crash near Coffs Harbour.

Emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway in Bonville after receiving reports of the horror car smash shortly after 12.30am on Wednesday.

A female driver and a male passenger, both believed to be in their early 20s, died before emergency services arrived.

A second male passenger, aged 20, managed to escape the burning vehicle.

The Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze on arrival.

Paramedics treated the 20-year-old man before transporting him to Coffs Harbour Health Campus, where he remains in critical condition.

The deceased are yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District have commenced an investigation into the crash and deaths.

The Pacific Highway is closed in both directions between Mailmans Track Road and Archville Station Road. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
