Two people have been forced to hide, fearing for their lives, as an intruder broke into their home and opened fire in the kitchen.

Police are investigating the terrifying firearm incident that occured at a Brisbane property early on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to Edith Street in Deagon shortly after midnight following reports of a disturbance.

Initial investigations suggest the unknown offender entered the residence, where they were confronted by the male and female occupants.

During the altercation, the offender discharged a firearm towards a kitchen chair as the victims hid.

The offender in believed to have fled the scene in a white Subaru Outlander, last seen heading towards Rainbow Street in Sandgate.

Neither occupant sustained physical injuries but were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Nothing was stolen and investigations are ongoing to determine whether the the victims and offender were known to each other,” a police spokesperson said.

A crime scene has been declared as investigations continue.
