Food recall: King Henrys Bakehouse Rye Bread pulled from supermarket shelves over undeclared allergen

A popular bread is being pulled from supermarket shelves after Australia’s food watchdog issued an urgent recall.

A popular bread is being pulled from supermarket shelves after Australia’s food watchdog issued an urgent recall.

On Friday, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand issued an urgent recall for King Henrys Bakehouse Rye Bread after the presence of an undeclared allergen was found.

The recall affects the 900g loaf with all best before dates from March 30, 2026 up to and including April 30, 2026.

The product has been available for sale in Coles and independent retailers including IGA, SPAR, Drakes, and Foodworks in south-east Queensland.

“Any consumers who have a soy allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” a statement on the recall read.

“Consumers who have a soy allergy or intolerance should not consume this product.

“Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

This is the second food recall in days, with a popular seasoning being pulled from shelves on Tuesday.

An urgent recall for Greenstorm Foods t/a Austral Herbs Certified Organic Garlic Powder was issued after the presence of an undeclared allergen was found.

The recall affects the 250g, 500g, 1kg, 5kg, and 10kg sizes of the product with best before date markings of December 8, 2028.

The product has been available for sale in independent retailers across NSW, QLD, VIC, TAS, and SA, as well as online nationally.

“Any consumers who have a peanut allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” a statement on the recall said.

Customers are advised to refrain from using the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Peanut allergies are particularly deadly due to the risk of anaphylaxis.
