Hervey Bay robbery: Man with gun allegedly steals ‘significant amount of cash’ from Armaguard van

There was allegedly a physical altercation between the man and a security officer.

Queensland Police were contacted about 6.30am on Tuesday with reports of an armed robbery.

A brazen morning robbery allegedly saw a man steal a “significant amount of cash” from an Armaguard van.

Emergency services were called to a shopping centre in a suburb of Hervey Bay, Queensland, about 6.30am on Tuesday morning.

They had received reports that a man threatened an armoured vehicle security officer with a gun.

Police said that there was a physical altercation between the man and the security officer.

The officer fired a shot before the man fled the scene with a “significant amount of cash” in an orange Ford Ranger.

A short time later, the vehicle was intercepted by police and the man was taken into custody.

No injuries have been reported.

Two crime scenes have been established and investigations are underway.

It is understood a section of the shopping centre remains blocked off to the public.
