A young man is fighting for life and a woman has been seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash at Strathfield, in Sydney’s Inner West, about 5.15am on Wednesday.

Their car collided with a truck on Gould St, requiring both lanes of the Hume Highway to be closed.

The 22-year-old man behind the wheel of the car was found with critical injuries, and his female passenger with a suspected broken leg, NSW Police said.

They were both taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

The male driver of the truck was not injured but was taken to Auburn Hospital for mandatory testing.

Diversions are in place for motorists, who are being urged to expect delays.

“All city-bound motorists, including heavy vehicles, can divert via Roberts Rd,” Live Traffic NSW said.

“All westbound motorists can divert via Cosgrove Rd.

“Local buses, including routes M90, 913 and 914 are also diverting from their normal routes in both directions, missing several stops.”
