A popular item for foodies has been pulled from shelves at Bunnings and recalled nationally over fears it could lead to severe injuries and even death.

The Inkbird Digital Food Thermometer — model number BG-HH2C — fails to comply with battery standards and its packaging may not be child-resistant, according to an alert from Product Safety Australia (PSA).

“There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button batteries and swallow or place them inside their body,” the PSA notice said.

The thermometers were sold between November 2022 and July 2024.

Those who bought the product, which was available for purchase at Bunnings stores Australia-wide and online, can be returned for a full refund.

The item should not be used and the advice is to keep it out of reach of children until it can be returned.
