One of the offenders allegedly threatened and assaulted the woman - who was holding her infant - with a blunt weapon while the second offender searched the premises.

The offenders reportedly stole the victim’s handbag and car keys before fleeing on foot.

Police apprehended one of the youths shortly after on Lyndavale Drive, while the other fled in a vehicle.

A brief pursuit followed, resulting in the second youth’s arrest.

The woman and her infant were transported to Alice Springs Hospital, with the infant later flown to Adelaide for further treatment of a serious head injury.

Police have since confirmed the infant is in stable condition.

The arrested youths, aged 16 and 17, have been charged with multiple offences, including aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, unlawfully causing serious harm, aggravated assault, and theft and are due to appear in court on Thursday.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, urging anyone with additional information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
