Two killed in light plane crash in waters off NSW national park near Nambucca Heads on Coffs Coast

The light plane crashed in the mid-north coast around 4pm.

Two people have died when a light plane crashed into waters off a national park in New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the coast at the Gaagal Wanggaan National Park near Nambucca Heads on the Coffs Coast at 4pm on Saturday.

Police located a plane wreckage a short time later in the water about 1.5kms southeast of Nambucca Heads.

The pilot and passenger of the aircraft, who have not yet been formally identified, died at the scene.

Police are now working with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau to investigate the incident.

“Police will prepare a report for the information of the coroner,” NSW Police said.

“No further information is available at this stage.”
