A man has questioned if he is “going to hell” after sharing his cheeky, and brutally lazy approach to Facebook Marketplace etiquette in a viral video that’s racked up more than 178,000 views across Instagram and TikTok.

Content creator Chris Nield filmed himself preparing for a buyer to collect a bed frame and mattress from his home, questioning whether he was actually expected to help load the bulky items.

“Someone is coming to pick up my old bed frame and mattress, and like, what’s the expectation?” he says in the clip.

“Am I expected to put this mattress and bed frame in the back of his car? Like, I’ve had a big day, I’m tired, I’m exhausted.”

While insisting he’s “morally a nice person” who would usually help, Nield admits “today’s not the day,” before revealing his “perfect solution”.

Moments later, he’s wearing an arm sling, pretending he’s suffered a serious injury.

“I broke my arm, fell off the scaffold, fell into concrete. Six weeks out of action. Wish I could help,” he says, practising his role play.

Despite the obvious inconvenience, he meets the buyer who proceeds to load the furniture himself as Nield offers only minimal assistance, even suggesting it might take “a few trips”.

“Technically, it’s not mine anymore,” he jokes to the camera as he flashes the money the buyer gave him.

The video has sparked a wave of reactions online, with viewers mostly congratulating Nield, calling it “genius”.

“You are going to hell,” one person wrote, alongside laughing emojis.

“Nahhh fair play,” another defended.

Others admitted they’d done something similar, while some said they prefer to help just to “get the interaction over quicker”.

A few commenters were concerned the Facebook buyer would see Nield’s video but he told The Nightly he wasn’t aware of that happening. “He didn’t seem very tech savvy,” he said.

Nield shares the feeling of many Aussies: “I honestly hate marketplace. The time you spend trying to communicate with someone who either tries to low ball you or push you to your limits is crazy”.

He also doubled down on the responsibility of transport being on the person who wants to purchase the item, but he definitely helped make the process smooth (and potentially limit the time he had to spend with a stranger).

“In my specific situation i had already dismantled and taken the bed frame to the other end of the house, I was well within my rights to sit back and relax. Although yes, I did feel guilty.”

The clip taps into a familiar grey area of online buying and selling, and who’s actually responsible for lifting, loading and hauling large items. Leave us a comment below with your thoughts!

Nield’s face may be familiar to viewers after he appeared on Married At First Sight Australia, where he was matched with bride Brook Crompton. Their relationship quickly became strained and, in the early episodes, Nield was initially portrayed as the “villain” in the pairing.

However, as the season progressed, audience sentiment shifted, with many pointing to Crompton increasingly blunt criticisms and emotional distance, and suggesting Nield was often the one putting in more effort to make the relationship work. He came across as genuine, patient and consistently willing to put in the work, even in difficult moments like the final commitment ceremony.

The drama escalated off-screen, with Crompton later revealing her pregnancy in a media interview, news that blindsided Nield and added to the fallout from their short-lived pairing.

Their time on the experiment ended abruptly, with the couple making an early exit after their relationship failed to recover, leaving Nield as one of the more memorable, and sympathetic grooms of the season.
