A 70-year-old man has been assaulted and remains in hospital after a terrifying home invasion on Sunday.

Police were called to a Jersey Street address in Matraville shortly after 11pm after reports of a break and entry.

The 70-year-old man was found with injuries to his head and hands.

Officers were informed that two men had entered a residence and confronted a 65-year-old woman.

The 70-year-old man attempted to fend off the intruders before one of them assaulted him.

One of the intruders then reportedly stole keys of the couple’s blue Subaru XV and drove away from the scene.

Paramedics treated the injured man before transporting him to Prince of Wales Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
