A man has died when his car crashed into a pole and burst into flames in Geelong.

The driver veered off Portarlington Rd in Newcomb, between Wilsons Rd and Neptune Ave, just after 9am on Friday.

The car caught fire after hitting the pole, with firefighters on the scene within six minutes to douse the blaze.

The man, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene.

“Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash,” police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
