A woman has died in hospital after being hit by a car in the Northern Territory last week.

The 20-year-old pedestrian suffered critical head injuries when she was hit about 11.30pm on Emery Ave, Woodroffe in Palmerston on July 15.

Police said the alleged driver, a 36-year-old man, did not stop initially, however eventually pulled over and called emergency services.

He allegedly underwent a positive breath test and was taken into custody.

Police on Monday confirmed the 20-year-old woman had died in hospital.

“The Major Crash Investigation Unit has carriage of the incident and investigations are ongoing,” police said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
