Belmore: NSW Police welfare check leads to murder charges after body found with multiple stab wounds

Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old man with murder after a welfare check uncovered a body with multiple stab wounds in Sydney’s western suburbs.

Emergency services responded to a property at around 9pm Saturday evening after a concern for welfare call, before discovering the grizzly scene.

As investigators tried to piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack, Lakemba Street in Belmore was locked down, and another man inside the home was detained and transported to hospital.

Police have confirmed that the body of a 34-year-old man was discovered and initial inquiries revealed the body sustained a number of stab wounds.

Homicide detectives have established a crime scene and a number of items were seized as evidence gathering continues.

A 24-year-old man was taken to Concord Hospital for assessment and was later released without charge, however at about 11.30am on Monday detectives arrested a 21-year-old man at Bankstown Police Station.

He was charged with murder and refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday.
