Blue Mountains: NSW Police raid ‘bolthole’ and seize hundreds of illegal 3D printed guns, parts

Specialist police have carried out a raid on what they are describing as a “bolthole” and discovered a huge stockpile of illegal 3D printed guns and gun parts.

Drug and firearm detectives have charged a man following the discovery of the clandestine gun manufacturing property in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales.

A police statement said that at about 8.35am on Wednesday, police raided the property in Blackheath and located in excess of 100 3D printed gun parts consisting of receivers, slides, magazines and triggers.

Officers also seized two completed guns – a pistol and longarm, seven imported gun barrels, a box of springs, clips and screws used to complete the guns, and a hard drive with approximately 500 blueprints for the 3D printer to print the weapons.

A 29-year-old man, was charged with manufacturing firearms without licence/permit, possessing digital blueprints for the manufacture of firearms and intentionally importing prohibited tier 2 goods.

It is illegal to make a 3D-printed guns in Australia, and a conviction in NSW for possessing a blueprint to manufacture guns can carry a sentence of up to 14 years in jail.

The alleged offender was refused bail to appear in Penrith Local Court on Thursday and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
