Budawang National Park, NSW: Search continues after pilot missing in suspected plane crash

Authorities are conducting a major search operation after a small recreational plane crashed in the state’s South on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services were notified about 4.30pm on Thursday when an aircraft Emergency Location Transmitter (ELT) was activated over Budawang National Park, around 25km North of Batemans Bay.
Police have been advised that the aircraft left Bankstown Airport just after 11am, bound for Mallacoota in Victoria, before turning back towards Sydney. The plane was carrying a single occupant, a man in his 60s.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.A joint response was launched involving South Coast police district officers, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, NSW Toll Ambulance Helicopter, Fire and Rescue NSW, the Rural Fire Service, and NSW Ambulance.
The crash site was located from the air near Wog Wog in Budawang National Park.
Emergency crews are working to reach the site on foot, with rugged conditions and poor weather preventing access by road or helicopter.
A search for the missing pilot is continuing.
