Cessnock fatal crash: Man dies after vehicle hits tree in Hunter Valley, NSW

A man has died in a tragic early morning crash in the popular Hunter Valley wine region in New South Wales.

The 46-year-old man was driving along Maitland Road, Cessnock, just after 5am Saturday when his car left the road and struck a tree, NSW Police said in a statement.

Emergency services responded to the crash but the man died at the scene. He was the only one in the car at the time.

NSW Police said officers from the Hunter Valley Police District were investigating and would prepare a report for the Coroner.

Local traffic diversions are in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Anyone with information about the crash – or who has any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – is asked to contact Cessnock Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
