Dee Why Headland: Sydney fisherman trapped for 15 hours rescued by chopper

A Sydney fisherman spent almost 15 hours stranded on rocks at Dee Why Headland after being caught out by the tide and unable to return to land.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, set out about 2.30pm on Monday afternoon to fish off the northern beaches headland, but by the time he tried to leave an hour later the tide had changed and cut off his path, The Daily Telegraph reported.
He attempted to make his way 300 metres around the headland to escape the swell but was unable to get through, leaving him stuck through the afternoon and night.

Paramedics responded and called in the Toll rescue helicopter, which winched the fisherman from the rocks about 5am and returned him to Dee Why Surf Club.
He was checked over by paramedics but did not require medical treatment.
