Dog who mauled owner in Leichhardt, Sydney may have reacted to fire alarm

New details have emerged about what may have caused a dog to attack and seriously injure its owner in Sydney’s inner west overnight.

She was treated for significant facial injuries and taken to hospital in a serious condition.

7NEWS.com.au understands the dog involved is a saint bernard.

Neighbours are reported to have told council officers the dog reacted to a fire alarm going off.

Police have not yet confirmed why the dog attacked its owner.

Paramedics were seen in the early hours of Wednesday morning covering the lower part of the woman’s face with a towel.

Paramedics also bandaged her arm — which appeared to have a significant gash — before putting her in the back of the ambulance.

The woman’s pants were covered in blood.

NSW Police are investigating what happened.
