Dural: NSW police swoop and arrest 72yo man for murder in Queensland allegedly committed 27 years ago

In an incredible investigation development, NSW police have arrested a man in Sydney for a murder allegedly committed in Queensland 27 years ago.

A 72-year-old man wanted on an arrest warrant for the alleged murder was confronted in Dural on Thursday and attacked the arresting officers as he was taken into custody.

Police attached to Kuring-Gai police area command arrested the man at a property on Kenthurst Road at about 8am, by virtue of an outstanding Queensland warrant that was issued in July 2023 in relation to an alleged murder in 1997 on the Sunshine Coast.

The man was taken to Hornsby police station where he was charged with the warrant, as well as assault police officer in execution of duty without aggravated bodily harm, deal with identity information to commit etc indictable offence, and possess identity information to commit etc indictable offence.

Police will allege in court the man attempted to bite an officer while he was in custody.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Friday.

It is understood the Queensland Police Service will apply for his extradition.
