Fairy Hill: Two dead after car veers off bridge and plunges into Richmond River

The bodies of two men believed to have died after their car crashed off a bridge and plunged into a river in northern NSW have been recovered from the submerged vehicle.

NSW Police have confirmed three people were in the vehicle when the tragedy unfolded at Droney’s Bridge Road in Fairy Hill, near Casino, just before 10pm on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old woman who was a passenger managed to escape from the vehicle and was unhurt.

The men are yet to be formally identified.

Emergency services crews are still at the scene where they are trying to recover the bodies from the submerged wreckage in the Richmond River.

“The bodies of two men are believed to be trapped in the submerged vehicle. Their ages are unknown,” police said.

“A multi-agency recovery operation is underway, with assistance from Police Rescue and SES crews.

“Police have established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

“Road closures are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
