A five-year-old girl has died after being struck by a ute while riding her scooter in Sydney’s west.

Emergency crews rushed to Clower Ave in Rouse Hill about 3.45pm on Thursday, following reports a child had been hit.

Police were told the little girl was riding on the footpath outside Rouse Hill Public School when she was struck by the vehicle.

Paramedics treated her at the scene before rushing her in a critical condition to to Westmead Children’s Hospital, where she later died.

The driver of the Toyota HiLux, a 42-year-old man, was taken to Blacktown Hospital for mandatory testing.

Both the scooter and the ute have been seized for forensic examination.

A crime scene has been established as investigators work to piece together what happened.
