A P-plate driver has set some serious records, but police are set to throw another book at him after he was clocked doing an incredible 201km/h on one of Australia’s busiest motorways.

The P2 licence holder was recorded by highway patrol officers at 201km/h as he flew past them on the Hume Highway at Campbelltown on Thursday night.

At around 11.30pm, the 25-year-old was spotted by the roving patrol travelling northbound near Raby Road in his mother’s Volkswagen Golf with two other young men in the car.

The 201km/h recorded not only exceeds the speed limit of 110km/h for that area but also breaks the P2 licence holder’s maximum speed limit by 101km/h.

When police finally pulled the speeding vehicle over and offered the driver a roadside dressing down, his flimsy excuse had officers scratching their heads.

The reason for his dangerous speed was to explain he was in a mad dash because he was “late for a dinner appointment!”

Needless to say the late dinner date held no sway with the highway patrol and his licence was suspended on the spot.

The offender was charged with driving at a speed dangerous to the public and summoned to appear will appear in court in three week’s time, after which he will more than likely have to get public transport to his ‘dinner dates’.

Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
