Police are hunting for a gunman after a man was shot dead in a suburban street.

Emergency services found the man in his 30s in Canley Heights in Sydney’s west on Sunday night after reports of shots being fired.

Paramedics treated him for gunshot wounds but he died at the scene.

Police were called a short time later to burning car in the neighbouring suburb of Wakeley, and they believe both incidents are linked.

Homicide detectives are investigating and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
