Leichhardt, Sydney: Two teens charged after high-speed pursuit, officer injured, taser and gun shots fired

A teenage boy and girl have been charged following a dramatic late-night police pursuit through Sydney’s West that ended with a crash, a police officer injured, and multiple vehicles damaged.
Just after 9.15pm on Saturday, officers from Cumberland Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle, which was believed to be stolen, as it travelled along Reservoir Road in Blacktown.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, police initiated a pursuit.

Police say that when they tried to remove the driver from the vehicle, an officer fired their gun and another deployed a taser after the car door allegedly struck and injured a 27-year-old officer.
The driver allegedly rammed three police cars, crashed into two other parked vehicles, and then fled the scene. The injured officer was taken to the hospital with a minor head injury and later discharged.
A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned in a driveway on Crystal Street, Petersham.
Detectives from Leichhardt police area command, with the assistance of the public order and riot squad, arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl at a home on George Street, Erskineville, around 2pm on Sunday.
Police allege the boy was the driver and have charged him with 10 offences, including police pursuit, not stopping, driving dangerously, five counts of destroying or damaging property, assaulting a police officer, and predatory driving.
The girl was charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent and breach of bail.
Both teens were refused bail and are due to appear before a Children’s Court on Monday.
