A 24-year-old has been charged by police after they allegedly caught him drink-driving twice in two hours.

NSW Police were patrolling the New England Highway in East Maitland at 12.30am on Saturday when they saw a ute allegedly being driven dangerously.

The car was pulled over by police, with the driver being arrested after allegedly returning a positive roadside breath test.

At the cop shop, NSW Police say the 24-year-old returned a breath analysis of 0.166.

The driver’s license was suspended on the spot and he was issued a court attendance notice for high-range drinking charges.

What the man did after the police station is not yet known, but by 2am, less that two hours later, NSW Police saw the same ute on the New England Highway.

Police say the driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

Road spikes were eventually deployed, bringing the car to a stop.

Police then arrested the same 24-year-old man who had his license suspended earlier on Saturday, charging him again for drink-driving after providing a second breath analysis for the second alleged incident, with NSW Police saying that the reading was 0.130.

For his second alleged incident, the 24-year-old was charged over alleged drink driving, a police pursuit, failure to stop and driving while his license was suspended.

He was refused bail to appear in court on Saturday.
