Four people have been injured, two seriously, in a crash on the Central Coast of NSW on Sunday morning.

A ute and a sedan collided head-on while travelling on the Old Pacific Hwy at Mount White about 7.15am.

A 27-year-old man who was driving alone in the sedan was trapped in the car with serious injuries for about an hour until rescue personnel could free him, NSW Police said.

He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 45-year-old male ute driver was uninjured, but his three female passengers were all hurt in the crash.

One of the 19-year-old passengers was airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Another 19-year-old and a third passenger, a woman in her 40s, suffered minor injuries.

The ute driver was taken to Gosford Police Station, where he has since been released pending further inquiries.

“The Old Pacific Hwy is closed in both directions and significant delays are expected as the crime scene is examined,” NSW Police said.

“Motorists are urged to avoid the area.”
