Man dead, teens arrested and others on the run after two-car crash in Burwood

Police in Melbourne are right now searching the city for a group of males who fled the scene of a devastating crash that killed an innocent man overnight.

A manhunt is underway following a two-car crash in Melbourne’s east.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Warrigal Road and Highbury Road in Burwood about 7pm on Tuesday following reports two cars had collided.

The driver of one car died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

Victoria Police say “a number of males” from the second vehicle, which is believed to be stolen, fled on foot while two 15-year-old girls were arrested at the scene.

The pair were taken to hospital under police guard.

“Local police with assistance from the Highway Patrol, Dog Squad and Public Order Response Team are searching for the males who ran from the scene,” a police spokesperson said.

“It is expected the area will be closed to traffic throughout the night while detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit process the scene.”
